11/16/19 — Books By Unread Authors You Want To Read

There are so many options for this prompt. It’s almost overwhelming and there will probably be some shocking titles in this list, the first one especially since it seems like everyone has read it. An extra, secondary theme for this selection- authors that I’ve heard are fantastic and have a few (or more than a few) lauded titles.

1.) The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

This seems to be one of those YA novels (or series openers) that so many people have read. Not having read it kind of feels like not having finished Harry Potter (another thing I’m guilty of) as a fan of dystopians of all types, The Hunger Games comes off as Battle Royale meets 1984 meets YA, a dream team of inspirations plus the frothiness of YA conventions. I wish I could forget about having seen the movie though- not saying the movie was bad, but I’d prefer to not have my brain shift to actors when picturing events/characters. I love when books have adaptations but enjoy knowing next to nothing about the adaptations (not even the casting) before diving in.

2.) The Sun Is Also A Star by Nicola Yoon

Nicola Yoon has written two books that I’m aware of, this one and Everything Everything. Her husband also has a book that looks great called Frankly In Love that was released around the summer/fall of this year. It’s really caught my eye that Nicola Yoon’s books were both optioned for film adaptations, I’m guessing both were met with some resounding hype. The rep in The Sun Is Also A Star sounds fantastic, very enthused to read it in the future.

3.) The Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb

I’ve heard fantastic things about this fantasy series opener and Robin Hobb’s writing in general. This book saw a fantastic-looking Hardcover re-release in October of 2019. Even more curious than before about it.

4.) Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng

I have somehow, miraculously, managed to forget everything I’d ever heard about this book aside from it being critically acclaimed. Also, it’s a relatively short read at 352 pages (short by my usual TBR page counts.) Going to shoo it in for December, love blind reads with high expectations.

5.) The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket

A rare middle grade series on my TBR. I watched the first season of the adaptation on Netflix which was hugely impressive, imaginative, and had a dark sense of humor that totally caught me off guard. Very much regret not happening upon this series when it first came out, would have no doubt been a childhood favorite. Fingers crossed that it still manages to be charmingly effective. The show definitely was. Will probably take it slowly through the 13 total volumes since I’ve heard that the plotlines can get repetitive from book-to-book after a while.

  3. Don’t worry – I haven’t read the hunger games either, only I STILL has no intention of reading it 😂 ahah so you shouldn’t feel too bad!
    The sun is also a star is also on my virtual wanna read, however 🙂

  4. The Hunger Games, like Harry Potter, is going to remain in the column of movies I watched but never read. lol

    Also, after seeing others list– I definitely misunderstood what this post was supposed to be, I think lol. I didn’t go rogue on purpose… just misunderstood!

  7. I had a really hard time choosing only 5 books for this week’s prompt as well. It just seemed like there were BILLIONS of possibilities and I had to narrow it down to only five books! I can’t believe you haven’t read Hunger Games!!! I was SO hype about that series when it first came out.

    Robin Hobb almost made my list, but I chose a different author instead in the end. But it was just so hard to choose this week!!

  8. Such an awesome list, Kitty! I haven’t read the Lemony Snicket books either. I think I had the first book when I was younger but don’t remember reading it and I don’t know why lol I really enjoyed Little Fires Everywhere and The Sun Is Also A Star 😍 I hope you enjoy all of these whenever you get to them!

  10. I haven’t read a Series of Unfortunate Events either! When they were all the rage, I was very young and my mother thought the title sounded too negative for a children’s series…
