Goodreads Monday is a weekly meme that was started by @Lauren’s Page Turners. The meme is pretty easy to follow, to participate simply choose a random book from your TBR and explain why you want to read it!
After randomizing via Goodreads (going to my to-read shelf, scrolling down and putting sort order by random) the following book tumbled first from that crowded shelf-
Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon
Summary from Goodreads–
My disease is as rare as it is famous. It’s a form of Severe Combined Immunodeficiency, but basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in fifteen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla.
But then one day, a moving truck arrives. New next door neighbors. I look out the window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black—black t-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly. I want to learn everything about him, and I do. I learn that he is funny and fierce. I learn that his eyes are Atlantic Ocean-blue and that his vice is stealing silverware. I learn that when I talk to him, my whole world opens up, and I feel myself starting to change—starting to want things. To want out of my bubble. To want everything, everything the world has to offer.
Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster.
I’ve been meaning all year to read one of Nicola Yoon’s books, her other book called The Sun Is Also A Star interests me more, but Everything Everything sounds highly unique. I’ve read/watched some reviews about it in the past and opinions seem highly mixed. If you’ve read Everything Everything, what did you think of it? I’m pretty interested in the movie too. I find it fun to read a book and then watch the movie and see how it interprets the characters and locales versus my mind’s eye.

I just read your review of this title and it was a FANTASTIC review, I’m glad I read it/know about some very important aspects of the book before trying it. Not sure if it’ll stay on my TBR at this point but just want to state again your review rocked.

Thanks Kitty!!! It’s so annoying because there’s so much potential for good in the book and Yoon writes cute very well…. But she definitely didn’t think through her plot enough

I really enjoyed this book. I listened to it on an app that I later found out skips major chunks of audio. So I’ll have to re-read this when I can. It’s a very cute and easy read, though.

I didn’t mind this book but The Sun is Also a Star was better I think? The deeper issues it covers and the ADORABLE characters won my heart over ❤ Everything, everything was a decent read but there were a lot of unrealistic aspects in concern to her disease and relationships with others. It was a mixed review for me. I hope you enjoy it though! 😀 Jen

Yeah, The Sun Is Also A Star sounds like it’s definitely the best starting to choice in trying Nicola Yoon, just as I suspected. Thanks for your thoughts, Jen. 😀

I thought this book was pretty good—a fairly fast, but fun read!

Oh wow, did you like The Sun Is Also A Star? I am thinking it should be my first Nicola Yoon book.

I haven’t read this one yet and I don’t know if I will. I was pretty interested until reading Emer’s review about how horrible the illness rep is. To be honest, even I felt pretty offended looking at it from a different perspective… I know a lot of people still enjoyed it though but I really enjoyed her book The Sun is Also A Star!

I read Emer’s review too, recently. She makes fantastic points that definitely have me questioning if I’m up to read it. The Sun Is Also A Star sounds like a hands down winner though.
