WWW Wednesday (10/23/19)

WWW Wednesday is hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words! All you have to do is answers the following three questions: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

I’m 25% through The Shining and liking it a lot! Waited far too long to read a Stephen King book and am acclimating quick to his style, the writing just flows and quickly at that. Danny is precious and I’m very curious about the hotel and especially about the room they’re not supposed to go into. Every horror-related thing should have scary forbidden room. The Haunting of Hill House and The Turn of the Key have such as well.

Won Song of the Crimson Flower from a BookishFirst giveaway. I wrote about BookishFirst here. So lucky to win this book. It was the first giveaway I’d ever entered of theirs and to this day, it’s been the best sample I’ve read from the site. Just starting this one.

What did you recently finish reading?

Really can’t imagine three more different books.

We Have Always Lived In The Castle is a classic I’ve been meaning to read for a while. Kind of kicking myself for not reading it sooner, a short but impactful one.

I was originally going to start Orange Marmalade this month but somehow read another graphic novel / manga that has Orange in the title first. Picked this first large omnibus (containing three volumes in one) up at my local library. A lot to say about this one in an upcoming review. Also put the second omnibus (containing the last two volumes, 5 total) on hold at my library and to make it short I’ll just say I need to finish this one, super curious about the ending. And warning, it is a heavy series despite that cover and what is a very wholesome cast of characters.

I was a little worried starting Escaping Exodus that I wouldn’t get into it since I’ve newly discovered that sci fi might be a bit out of my comfort zone. Good news, it’s not that out of my comfort zone and this was a sensational read. Reviewing soon.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I’ve opted to finish this 10-volume series, Pet Shop of Horrors, this month. I finished the first five volumes around springtime. It’s so perfect for October though. I’ve yet to mention this series on this blog but the long and short of it is that it’s a very noteworthy manga brimming with creative energy and a style like no other. Planning on making a pretty exhaustive and impassioned review for the series as a whole in the future. Though this one is long out of print and currently unlicensed, many of the English-translated volumes from Tokyopop are still available at pretty reasonable used prices on Amazon, Thriftbooks, BetterWorldBooks, eBay, and such. For now.

Thanks for checking out this week’s WWW! What is everyone reading? Are any of the above books on your TBR or have you read them? Loving your thoughts, as always. Thanks again. ❤ ~ Kitty

  1. Orange is so good! Can’t wait to read your review of the full series. I’m also interested in hearing your thoughts on Pet Shop of Horrors. I never read that one when it first came out, though I’ve enjoyed other works by the creator.

      1. Kamen Tantei is a pretty fun series by Matsuri Akino that I really enjoyed. It was also released by Tokyopop back in the day, so it might be hard to track down now, but it’s only 4 volumes long and I’d say it’s worth a read if you can find it.

    1. I am astonished at how fast and rhythmically readable The Shining is, such a giant chonky book but doesn’t feel like such. Glad you read it this month too! I’m looking to finish and review all of Orange this month, wonderful series. ❤ OMG I am so glad you've heard of and read several PSOH vols!! The series is totally our type of style haha. Thanks for all your thoughts. ❤
