Goodreads Monday is a weekly meme that was started by @Lauren’s Page Turners. The meme is pretty easy to follow, to participate simply choose a random book from your TBR and explain why you want to read it!
After randomizing via Goodreads (going to my to-read shelf, scrolling down and putting sort order by random) the following book tumbled first from that crowded shelf-

A masterful tale of ambition, jealousy, desire, and superpowers.
Victor and Eli started out as college roommates—brilliant, arrogant, lonely boys who recognized the same sharpness and ambition in each other. In their senior year, a shared research interest in adrenaline, near-death experiences, and seemingly supernatural events reveals an intriguing possibility: that under the right conditions, someone could develop extraordinary abilities. But when their thesis moves from the academic to the experimental, things go horribly wrong.
Ten years later, Victor breaks out of prison, determined to catch up to his old friend (now foe), aided by a young girl whose reserved nature obscures a stunning ability. Meanwhile, Eli is on a mission to eradicate every other super-powered person that he can find—aside from his sidekick, an enigmatic woman with an unbreakable will. Armed with terrible power on both sides, driven by the memory of betrayal and loss, the archnemeses have set a course for revenge—but who will be left alive at the end?
In Vicious, V. E. Schwab brings to life a gritty comic-book-style world in vivid prose: a world where gaining superpowers doesn’t automatically lead to heroism, and a time when allegiances are called into question.
Happy to see this title! Have been seeing V.E. Schwab’s books around and they all look so interesting. This title, A Darker Shade of Magic, This Savage Song. If you’re a fan of V.E. Schwab’s work feel free to say in the comments which book is her best or the best place to start, such info would be very helpful. 😀 And thank you so much for checking out this week’s GR Monday. ❤ ~ Kitty
I borrowed this one from the library but then I lost the mood to read it so I returned it. I’m thinking after I calm down with reading all my library books, I’m going to reborrow the ones that I didn’t read, but one at a time! I’ll have to try this one. One of the librarians recommended this to me, so I don’t want to disappoint.

I hope you like it upon re-reading, I know what you mean about borrowing and not reading lol. Have been there with library books. Especially now as an active book blogger, there is so much to read and the immediate back log can be intense. 😀

I still need to read a book by V.E. Schwab. Like you, I see her books everywhere! Hopefully I can read a book of hers soon.

You know…I just had a light bulb moment, I have read a book by her but as Victoria Schwab! It’s called This Savage Song. I just never put the names together. 🤦🏻♀️ lol but I do keep seeing A Darker Shade of Magic, everywhere! I have yet to read that series.

I’m toying with the idea of reading this one… even have it out on loan from the library right this minute… but that copy is a bit grubby looking and it’s putting me off. Plus I think I’m one of the only people alive who hated a darker shade of magic…. But some of my best reading friends absolutely adore Schwab and recommend this one quite highly!

Maybe give it a chapter trial? That’s what I’ve been thinking of doing when not sure about a title. I’ve heard of some people who loved A Darker Shade of Magic hating Vicious so maybe it could work in reverse?
haha I hope you do like it if you end up reading it though. 🙂

You know it is funny. I follow her on Twitter (I’m not sure why or how that started) and just really like her personality. But I have yet to read one or her books.

LOL I am following her on Twitter too! She writes a lot of memorable tweets I notice, I hope her writing style is similarly fun.
