Goodreads Monday : 10/7/19

Goodreads Monday is a weekly meme that was started by @Lauren’s Page Turners. The meme is pretty easy to follow, to participate simply choose a random book from your TBR and explain why you want to read it!

After randomizing via Goodreads (going to my to-read shelf, scrolling down and putting sort order by random) the following book tumbled first from that crowded shelf-

Night Film by Marisha Pessl

On a damp October night, 24-year-old Ashley Cordova is found dead in an abandoned warehouse in lower Manhattan. Though her death is ruled a suicide, veteran investigative journalist Scott McGrath suspects otherwise. As he probes the strange circumstances surrounding Ashley’s life and death, McGrath comes face-to-face with the legacy of her father: the legendary, reclusive cult-horror film director Stanislaus Cordova–a man who hasn’t been seen in public for more than thirty years.

For McGrath, another death connected to this seemingly cursed family dynasty seems more than just a coincidence. Though much has been written about Cordova’s dark and unsettling films, very little is known about the man himself.

Driven by revenge, curiosity, and a need for the truth, McGrath, with the aid of two strangers, is drawn deeper and deeper into Cordova’s eerie, hypnotic world. The last time he got close to exposing the director, McGrath lost his marriage and his career. This time he might lose even more.

Very surprised to see this title pop up randomly. This book is a haunting-looking thriller that seems October-suited. Added this last year after reading/watching some really interesting reviews. Don’t remember major details, so would be going in (almost) blind when I do get to it. The best way to get into thrillers/mysteries in my opinion.

Have you read Night Film or have it on your TBR? Will be curious to hear your thoughts. Thanks as always for checking out this week’s Goodreads Monday. ~ Kitty.

  1. So I’m not the BIGGEST fan of thrillers but this book came highly recommended to me by a close friend so about a year ago I thought WHAT THE HECK & read it & LET ME SAY, you are in for a wild ride (in the best way possible!) And I think going into it with zero knowledge or expectations is the best way – you’ll see what I mean!

Let me know what you think if you do end up reading it! 😃
